The story of Tupac Shakur’s murder is the ultimate “everyone knows, but nobody knows” mystery. For nearly thirty years, it sat in this weird limbo—part hip-hop tragedy, part urban legend, and part massive police failure. But as we head into 2026, the trial of the only man ever charged in the case is finally peeling back the layers of what actually happened that night on the Vegas Strip.

It was September 7, 1996. The energy in Las Vegas was electric because Mike Tyson had just steamrolled Bruce Seldon at the MGM Grand. Tupac was there with Suge Knight, the head of Death Row Records. They were on top of the world.

But things took a dark turn in the hotel lobby. Tupac spotted Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, a member of a rival gang who had reportedly jumped one of Tupac’s friends earlier that summer. Tupac didn’t wait for security; he swung first. A massive brawl broke out, and after it was broken up, Tupac and Suge left for a party at Club 662.
